Plain-English rules for buying and selling on Lore. They are part of the Terms of Service. The short version: describe honestly, ship fast with tracking, inspect promptly, and Lore holds the money until it's right.
1. Who can trade
- You must be 18 or over and hold a Lore account.
- Sellers can list straight away. Before your first payout you complete Stripe onboarding (identity check and payout bank account, about three minutes); Lore holds the money until you have. Lore pays out in Australian dollars.
- Buyers can be anywhere we ship to (currently Australia, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, Canada).
2. Listing a copy
- You can only list a copy you physically hold and have registered on Lore with the full photo protocol (live in-app camera; no uploads).
- The listing fronts with one of that copy's own protocol photos — never a stock image.
- Price honestly. Asking prices never enter the price guide; only completed sales do.
- New sellers (Tier 1) may hold up to 2 active listings, each up to A$100. After 3 clean sales (Tier 2): 10 listings, up to A$500. Listings above A$100 require the copy to be Lore-verified. Higher-value copies are handled through Lore's hub when it opens.
- You may edit the asking price at any time; buyers may make offers at or above half the ask; you may accept, decline or counter once. An accepted offer must be paid within 24 hours or it lapses.
3. Paying
- Buyers pay Lore through Stripe Checkout in Australian dollars. Lore holds the money — the seller is not paid at this point.
- The delivery address is captured at checkout and is the only address the seller may ship to.
- Any buyer protection fee is shown before you pay.
4. Shipping
- Ship within 3 business days of the sale email. If you can't, message us before the deadline; a listing that isn't shipped in time may be cancelled and refunded.
- Ship only to the address on the order, with a tracked service, and enter the tracking number and carrier on the order page. Untracked parcels are at the seller's risk.
- For orders over A$50, use signature on delivery and tick the box when you mark the order shipped. The carrier's signature record is your evidence if delivery is disputed.
- Pack for a collectible: rigid protection for corners and edges, water-resistant wrap, no loose movement. Damage from inadequate packing is the seller's responsibility.
5. Delivery and the 72-hour window
- The inspection window opens when the buyer confirms receipt, or when the carrier reports the parcel delivered — whichever comes first. Lore checks the carrier's status hourly.
- The buyer has 72 hours from then to inspect the copy against the listing photos and grade.
- If it's right, the buyer can release the payout early. If nothing happens, the payout releases automatically when the window closes.
- If something is wrong, the buyer opens a dispute inside the window and the payout pauses.
6. Disputes
- Open a dispute from the order page with a clear reason. Add photos of what you received if the copy differs from the listing.
- The Lore team decides on the evidence: the copy's protocol photos and grade, the listing, the carrier's record (including signature), and both parties' accounts. We may ask either party for more information; answer within 3 days.
- 'Not received' disputes: a carrier-confirmed delivery to the order address, with a signature where one was required, is treated as delivered — the seller is protected. Without that record, the seller bears the loss.
- 'Not as described' disputes: we compare what arrived with the protocol photos and grade. Material differences favour the buyer; ordinary variance within the stated grade favours the seller.
- If the parties sort it out themselves, the buyer who opened the dispute can withdraw it from the order page; the order returns to delivered with at least 24 hours left on the window.
- No member of the Lore team decides a dispute on an order they are party to.
- Outcomes are release to the seller, or refund to the buyer. Where a refund is ordered for a copy that arrived, the buyer returns it tracked to the seller before the refund is finalised, at the seller's cost if the fault was theirs.
- Lore's decision closes the dispute on Lore. It does not remove any rights either party has under law.
7. Payouts and fees
- The seller fee is currently 10% of the sale price, GST included, and is deducted from the payout. The fee shown on your order page is your record of the charge for tax purposes. Any buyer protection fee is shown at checkout. Fees may change with notice; the rate at the time of sale applies.
- GST on the book itself: none when a private collector sells their own copies. If you sell as a GST-registered business, GST on your sale is your responsibility, not Lore's.
- Payouts are transferred to your Stripe account on release, then paid to your bank on Stripe's schedule. If you have not completed Stripe onboarding when a sale releases, Lore keeps holding the money and pays it out automatically once you have.
- A released sale moves the copy's registry entry and library item to the buyer and counts toward your seller tier.
- You are responsible for any tax on your sales. Lore will provide sale records for your accountant.
8. Not allowed
- Counterfeit, replica, or stolen items; copies you don't hold; misdescribed editions or grades.
- Taking a sale that started on Lore off-platform, or contacting a buyer/seller to arrange it.
- Shill offers, feedback manipulation, or entering fake sales into the price guide.
- Shipping to any address other than the one on the order.
Breaches lead to cancelled listings, withheld payouts pending investigation, and account closure. Fraud is reported.
